eeling desperate - anyone have any experience of estrogel/utrogestan regime for PMDD? Have had underlying panic disorder my entire life which I was happily on sertraline for. Had PND with first son aged 30 but, until this point and after was on depo provera (injection of pill that stops ovluation/periods) from 18 to 35 apart from when pregnant or trying for a baby. So had never had a monthly cycle until 3 years ago. When I started to have a monthly cycle i noticed that from day 14 (ovulation) for 2 weeks, until my period started, i felt hugely anxious, depressed and panicky with terrible dark moods and thoughts. I have been put on a regime of 2 pumps of estrogel (now up to 4) and utrogestan (which I started with 2 capsules 12 days per month but am now on 1 capsule, 7 days a month because I had been advised to take it to coincide with the last 12 days of my cycle and it made me pretty much suicidal, exaggerating all the, already horrendous, bits of the last 2 weeks of the month). I havent noticed any improvement on this regime at all (its been 6 months now) and I am keen to hear from anyone who has been on more than 4 pumps of estrogel and found that it did, eventually, improve things or anyone who went down a similar path as this one and found it didnt work for them (and what did). I really need some hope here! I really appreciate you reading this, rather long, read and for your input.

Hi @darlignbabs

I’m on 100 mg bioidentical progesterone as a vaginal pessary at night for 14 days out of the 30 as I react badly to progesterone. I take two pumps of bioidentical oestrogen daily.

I also used to get extremely snappy and depressed coming up to my period. Going on synthetic progesterone only contraception nearly finished me off altogether.
My GP knows all about this and I sometimes only take 10 days a month 100 mg prob as a vaginal pessary if I’m feeling the rage build up after 10 days. I sometimes have to avoid everyone and remind myself not to bite everyone’s head off by going for long walks and being kind of solitary!

I have private uterine scans every year to check my endometrium isn’t thick and so far this regimen has been brilliant for me.

Look at professor studd’s website about PMDD. He’s head of the British assoc of gynecologists. You’re not alone with sensitivity to progesterone.
He recommends the regimen I’m on for women who are sensitive to progesterone and who get the crying jags/ rage! It works well I feel.

Hope all the above helps.

I Tried Utrogestan ,/Ostradiol couldn't cope with the way it knocked me out like a sleeping tablet

now back on FEMOSTON 1/10 , GP,s practices will try and fob you off with the cheapest rubbish , try a few
but see an Endocrinologists , and have regular blood tests

don't suffer in silence ,especially if you have panic attacks, lack of confidence , dryness, had to threaten my GP if he didn't send me to Endo , ( I am a solicitor ) check out Menopause matters or any similar web sites
I don't intend to grow old , look at Lulu she is on HRT
