Feel like GP fobbed me off

Im 45 and have been having perimenopause symptoms for at least 8 months. I summoned up the courage to see GP as it’s really impacting upon my marriage, career and general well-being. Gp said as I was already on Citolopram (2 years for anxiety unrelated to peri) I should just take some vitamins (Menopace) and then gave me leaflets ( which I’d already read). Is this the usual response by GPs when you go with peri symptoms? Came home and just cried. So fed up with feeling awful.

I had a bad experience with mine! He said to accept the nature!!! I was 42! Try to find an informed and caring one and don't spent your energy struggling with your symptoms! :)

Thanks Emerald. Feel so fed up. Gp was barely 30. Nice nature, but totally unable to comprehend what it feels like. Will give it one month, then going back with a different GP.

Insist on seeing a different GP and keep pushing until one listens to you. It's just going to get more difficult to deal with the symptoms, so you need to be firm.

I first saw someone about suspected perimenopause stuff 18 months ago. He was an old Asian man and totally disinterested in everything I told him, and told me that 'this is what happens to women of my age and to accept it.'

I was 40, and having very real and typical perimenopausal symptoms. It's way more common than most people of this age realise, I think because so few people talk about it.

I finally found a new GP who recognised off the bat I was perimenopausal and he's been a dream. He was appalled my previous GP dismissed my concerns.
