Hi
Recently started on oestrogel/ utrogeston ( sequential) and am on day 10 of gel. I have started bleeding today which I didn’t think was meant to happen. Do I just continue as normal and start the utrogeston on day 15 as directed.
I hadn’t had a period since January of this year but gp said sequential was better for me as I wasn’t a year period free. Feel a bit confused so any help is really appreciated.

It’s is probably your period starting, have you been prescribed estrogel for daily use.

Menomadness · 23/04/2018 11:08

HI thanks for reply. Yes I have the gel for daily use 2 pumps each day and I am supposed to take the utrogeston at day 15 for 12 days as well as gel. I am only on day 10 so haven’t yet started the utrogeston but began bleeding today.
Do I just continue with the regime?

Definitely keep the gel going, not sure about the utrogeston as I use a Mirena with my estrogel.

Yes, I think that you can continue as your gyn have said.
At the beginning of hrt it is usual to have abnormal beeding if you are still in peri.
When you have your hormones stabilized it will be normal. Just inform your gyn just in case.

Don't you think you might need to ask your gp?

QueenoftheNights · 27/04/2018 13:32

I use that combination. I do a longer cycle with my consultant's guidance. I am post meno now. The bleed is your own period which you can't help as it's coincided with starting HRT. Some women start the Utrogestan on the 1st of each month for 12 days, others on the 15th of each month. It wouldn't hurt to wait till next week to the 1 May, then 1 June etc. Eventually you will reset your cycle (and the withdrawal bleed) around HRT as your own periods become further apart. The point of Utrogestan is to stop the lining building up. When you stop it, the bleed happens 2-3 days later. So you might find if you start it today, you bleed again in about 18 days time. You can either start today or leave it to 1 May. won't make much difference.

Thanks nocure but to be honest I don't have much faith in the gp I saw as she had less clue than me I think when initially prescribing as she told me there wasn't a HRT gel available.
Queen - I have to go back to gp after a month of HRT so I suppose I better take them so I can see what happens and report back. I am not looking forward to more bleeding though! Haven't had a period since January and then they were fairly light- this isn't 😩

It's heavy because you've got 4 months of blood in there to come out. It won't be anything like that after 18 days on Utrogestan because it stops the lining building up anyway.
