I've been peri menopausal for around a year now. Nothing too drastic. The odd hot flush. That kind of thing.

But over the last 6 months my periods have been coming on average every 1.5 to 2 weeks. I'm literally drained. They're heavy too. Where is all this blood coming from?

Im nervous about HRT. Not because of breast cancer, but because I always reacted so badly to contraceptive pills. I tried a few and they either made me depressed or I bled all the time on them. Does anyone know if I'm likely to get the same reaction to HRT?

2cats2many, I sometimes wonder that too - where on earth is all this blood coming from!

Can't tell you anything about HRT but tranexamic acid stops the heavy blood loss, a Mirena coil could stop the bleeding all together (I've avoided it as, like you, I've had bad reactions in the past) and you should probably get your ferritin levels checked as it is amazing how quickly they fall with such heavy and frequent periods. And finally, might be worth asking for an ultrasound to see if you have fibroids which are causing the blood loss.

I guess that your reaction to BCP doesn’t predict the way your body will respond to hrt.
BCP have synthetic hormones at very high doses in comparison with hrt. Modern hrt has body indentical estrogen and in lower doses than in contraceptive pills.
