Hormone levels

I know they don't mean much, but the report with my private blood tests said that my levels were normal and questioned whether I was in perimenopause at all (which I am)

FSH 29.5 IU/L
LH 33.3 IU/L
Oestradiol 656 pmol/L

I was hoping the high FSH was a good sign but the relatively high oestradiol makes me wonder - I think I was having a surge and had no flushes for a few days last week. I know it's not scientific though, just wondering if anyone had any thoughts?

FSH above 30 is considered high, are your periods regular? Maybe the high estrogen masks FSH and that’s why you have no hot flashes or other more severe symptoms yet.

Thanks for the reply emerald, been irregular since 2013, 60 day gap in 2016, 90 day gap in 2017 so I'm quite well in, though had periods every 3 weeks for 6 months not long ago. Do have flushes and nightswests, typically none the days around the test. Realise that makes it very hard to judge results though.

How old are you Op?

PollyPerky · 20/03/2018 15:28

I'm wondering why you are so keen to understand the results? I had 1 test when I first saw my dr, 11 yrs ago. It said i was post meno. We both laughed as I went on to have periods for 18 months.

If you are having symptoms and you would consider HRT that's all the dr needs to go on. NICE says ignore blood tests- treat symptoms.

NickyNora, 50 now. Oestregen has dropped in the past few days, such a weird feeling for me when it does. The flushes start, the 2lbs I have put on disappears overnight, I stop craving awful unhealthy foods. I pray this is what menopause is like for me!

I've just looked at my results from a year ago out of curiosity as the results meant nothing to me then. My FSH were 90 and LH 61, which I now know is considered very high and that of a woman in full blown menopause. Yet like Polly, I continued to have periods, a few even totally normal when I strongly suspected ovulation took place (used to know exactly when I ovulated).
