Estrogel & Levothyroxine

I'm on Levothyroxine.

Do I need to avoid using the gel at the same time?

I was planning on using it in the morning & at night but unsure as I don't want the HRT to interfere with the Levothyroxine.

1 Read the info sheet in the Oestrogel pack (about contraindicated meds)to see if it's on the list.

2 Ask your pharmacist

Using a hormone that you have naturally anyway in your body can't interfere with another substance you'd naturally have (I'd assume) otherwise no one using thyroxine would be able to use HRT. But check.

I meant to add....it's irrelevant when you use Oestrogel because it's not like it stays in your system for a limited time, like a pain killer, (when you could take other medication 'safely')- it builds up in your system over weeks and months so it's always there (it can take 3 months for levels to go back to pre HRT level.) Women who come off HRT (maybe to see if they still need it) are told to wait 3 months while it gets out of their system.

Thyroxine and estrogen are hormones that would exist in your body together anyway.

Thanks. I found some info apparently it's taking the tablet form HRT that affects Levothyroxine absorption.

The leaflet has no information regarding Levothyroxine.

My thyroid needs to be rechecked after 3 months on the HRT. My GP wasn't even enough aware of this... Hmm

Thanks again.
