How heavy is too heavy for perimenpause periods

I had no period for 3 months before this one (I'm 48 in a couple of months.)

I've always had fairly heavy periods which have got even heavier over last few years. Regularly show up as anaemia on blood tests and take liquid iron supplements as needed which work v well to control it.

This period has now last two weeks. First 4 days relatively light but v heavy for last 10 days and still heavy. Is this all just normal for perimenopause ?

I think it is normal for periods to get heavier in perimenopause and I have read that this signals that the end is in sight. There are some tablets you can get from the doctor (I think you can also buy them over the counter) which reduce the flow, and also taking nurofen regularly throughout your period is supposed to reduce it too. I believe you have to take them as soon as you start though to have maximum effect.

Thanks Fizzy that's really useful. I'll look into the tablets if things don't settle.
I didn't realise that it was one of the signs that things might be coming to a close. I've definitely been peri for a number of years so may well be true in my case.

Yes dahliaaa that is the thing to hold onto! I read a really useful site (which of course I can't find now) which said that this is often the beginning of the end. Mine went really heavy in my late forties for a couple of years and now I have heavy ones interspersed with very light ones, no pattern to it. The heavy periods get you down though, both physically and mentally.
