I want conti HRT via oestrogen gel & progesterone tablet - is this possible?

At an absolute push I'd consider a conti patch although the oestrogen gel & progesterone tablet if this can be done conti would be my first choice.
No period for over 3 1/2 years so am definitely not wanting a monthly bleed - can cope with a bit of spotting if it happens.
Does anyone know if the gel & tablet can be done?
I have done some research and it seems that it can - many French GPs use this method as do quite a few private UK doctors. My GP was ok with the idea but couldn't find which drugs to prescribe so wondered if anyone here could help please.

If I have to go down patch route, would Evorel conti mean no bleed? (I assume it would)

There are loads of UK women using this; if you look at the Menopause Matters forum there is thread running to about 84 pages on just this!
gel, plus 100mcgs Utrogestan every day or 25 days a month; latter may give a very light bleed.

thanks Polly I have been looking into this exactly thing for days if not weeks now now and had decided this was the method for me and saw GP this afternoon only to be taken aback when he said it wasn't possible so left with nothing after finally deciding to try HRT. Took alot for me to go - been putting it off for 3 (silly) years and was really looking forward to getting my prescription and starting today! He suggested mirena and oestrogen gel but that is not what I want. He looked in his drugs book and was unable to sort it out for me.
Will have to contact GP again.

The woman who runs menopause matters has a service where you can pay £25, email her and she will email you back. I did it and felt more prepared when I went to gp.

Dr Currie the consultant who runs Menopause Matters does reply to emails, but it's not much use if you already know what you want. Usually, women contact her (I've seen on her website) when they have come to a dead end with what to try or the dose. Or their GPs refuse HRT.

However, I think if your GP says it's not possible (WTF does THAT mean?) you may find an email from her to show him helpful.

First though I'd ask what he means by not possible. Does this mean he doesn't know how to prescribe?

Sorry- misread- he just doesn't know how to prescribe. Can't he be bothered to look it up online? Or go on a BMS course for GPs? What a terrible admission not to know what to give you!

What an awful GP he sounds OP. I’m on this myself and it suits me very well. Oestrogel 2 pumps daily (actually an oestrogen patch is less messy) and Utrogestan micronised progesterone 1 daily, days 1-28 of each month. I bet he was just trying to get out of prescribing it to you as other treatments are cheaper.

thanks everyone to be honest he is lovely so I will speak to him again next week. It has taken me 3 years to feel ready to try it and have suffered alot with meno so really feel I must try the drugs that I want.
