HRT breastfeeding help?

Hello

I was hoping there may be someone on who here who can offer some advice or point me in the right direction.

I had my ovaries and tubes removed in early August due to borderline tumors. As I am 42 and relatively young for the procedure I promised my consultant I would go on HRT. As I am still breastfeeding a toddler (turned 2 last w/e) I was worried that I would have to stop straight away but my consultant said I can go on a low dose as it would be replicating my own hormones due to the b/f.

So here I am a week and a bit after starting femoston 1/10mg and I am not necessarily noticing any difference in myself as of yet, but I am wondering about my son. He only feeds twice a day mostly for comfort but his stomach has become increasingly upset. Without going into detail, it is really unpleasant and very unusual for him. He isn't really eating much but what he does is going through him. Could this be a result of the HRT or is it just coincidence?

I rang my GP surgery and they were clueless so I shall ring my gyny-oncology nurse tomorrow. I have a follow up with the hospital next week but I have tried googling and cant find any real info on B/f and HRT.

Thanks for reading

I needed to go on to HRT because of early menopause diagnosis prior to pregnancy (egg donation) but was told I couldn't go on HRT until I stopped BF. Quite surprised you've been prescribed it.

If your ds is different - of course it could be conincidence but I would hold off on your medication until he's fully stopped BF.

I'm actually not sure on this but didn't want to read and run.

Have a look on lactmed.com (or the app). You may have to input the generic name of the two different components of the femoston but it should give you info on the effects on breastmilk.

Anecdotally I started on the progesterone only pill (contraception) and noticed my 1 year old BF DD got a bit spotty and started vomiting a small bit most days while I was on it. I stopped it and all settled but no idea if there was any real link!

Thanks for replying. I feel like I don't know who to ask and i am a little overwhelmed by the whole thing. I thought surgery was the hard part but this is all much more confusing and emotionally loaded.

I will ring my nurse tomorrow and hopefully they will point me in the right direction. Will also look on lactmed. He's had a bottle tonight but he demands it most in the early morning!
