Early peri and panic attacks

I have always been an anxious person but I've started having panic attacks which are horrible. Is this a symptom of peri menopause? Could really do with a sympathetic ear and advice

Yup. I struggled for years - even waking up with a racing heart in the middle of the night - before linking the 2. It's a personal decision, but my GP put me on a low-dose antidepressant which has worked really well. There are lots of non-medical options out there too.

That's interesting because mine have started at night too. Racing heart like you say.

I had this too. It was my only noticeable symptom. I'm quite a confident person but found myself a gibbering wreck in social situations for a time.

And it's a vicious circle - when you know it might happen it makes it more likely that it will happen.

The only thing that helped was telling others in advance. Because [for me] it was other people's reactions that caused the great distress.

I was in a stressful condition all the time, depressive thoughts, no energy at all and feeling tired all the time. I couldn't function at my work and no sleep! All these symptoms are due to the lack of estrogen as I informed after my diagnosis of early menopause.

I had them for years until I realised I was in peri, then AT menopause. Used to get panicky just going out to a shopping centre which was weird I used to be someone who didn't blink at doing a big presentation to hundreds of people.
I'm convinced it was one of the reasons I was made redundant from my last 'big corporate' job - I just couldn't function properly.
I also got heart palpitations.

It all stopped almost overnight when I started taking HRT, and I haven't had any more attacks/palpitations since. Bodies are weird...

Yes - I still get the occasional 'night terror/anxiety' when I wake up with my heart pounding and an overriding sense of doom that something awful has happened!
