Awful heavy period - day 12

I'm aged 45. Four children. Generally regular periods, and from what I have googled, I would tend to have heavy but not overly disruptive periods.

I'm now on Day 12 of the worst period ever. Ive soaked through tampons and pads (together) every day this week. Was out for dinner with a friend yesterday, and suddenly got a gush right through my clothes and had to get a taxi home. I am changing sanpro hourly. After a bath last night, I fell deep asleep and woke in a puddle of blood this morning. I'm still pouring out blood and clots, and am very achey.

Do I just wait for it to pass and see how next month goes, or see a doctor? I'm seriously considering ringing in sick as I've never experienced this level of blood loss before. I'm on my third box of tampons and fourth pack of pads since it started.

Day 12? Yes absolutely would I be at the GP in the morning. I'm sure it's nothing but if it's unusual for you, get it checked out.
