Is this the perimenopause?

I'm 36. My youngest DC is 14 months old and my periods returned 8 months ago when I started to wean. But since then they have been erratic: I can have a 28 day cycle one month, then 35, then 22; sometimes the flow is light, sometimes very heavy. This is not normal for me. Before I became pregnant my cycles were pretty regular, 34 days (even while still partly breastfeeding, as I now am). I never had cycles shorter than 30 days. I know I am in an at-risk group for early menopause due to previous eating disorder and being on the borderline underweight side most of my adult life. I just didn't think it would actually happen. I am not ready for this. Please someone say something reassuring.

If it is not normal for you, and you are clearly concerned, then you should see your GP.

Try to get an appointment this week. They might be able to do some blood tests to try and explain things.

I'd echo getting checked out. I'm 38 and periods recently stopped, I'm permanently knackered and have gained weight/bloating. My gp has ordered full blood tests and scan. Never occured to me that i could be perimenopausal...
