You have to go 12months without a period to be menopausal I believe. Given my last period was in Septemebr 2016 I was thinking next month I'd be sent my official membership card but today I'm having a period! Has anyone else had such a big gap? Does the clock start again now or do I have to have a number of periods before the one year timer resets to zero? I was secretly pleased before this as apart from aches and pains in my lower back and knees (which make me feel older than 49 (50 in Jan)), I was getting away without some of the more difficult symptons of the process such as hot flushes. Now I'm not sure I have even been in the process Confused

It does mean starting counting again. If you have a period more than 12 months after your last period you need to see your GP to get it checked out. Some women get to 11 months without a period more than once.

The exact same thing happened to me Figleaf. I went to the docs to check it out and apparently it's quite common. ovaries having a last hurrah
Doc did say that you need 12 clear months to be officially through the peri and into the meno bit.
Well done on the hot flush front. I still get the odd one 5 years down the line.

I was at home junebirthdaygirl but we have been quite stressed as my youngest sons exam results came out here in Scotland yesterday. He did quite well but was a bit worried before the day. I did wonder if I had stressed myself into a period.
