I have today been prescribed HRT patches. Periods have become irregular and my joints are aching like never before.

I got the prescription but when i got home i realieed the doctor hadnt checked my blood pressure. Should she have checked it? I am generally healthy and not on any medication but i am overweight although working on losing it. Does anyone know if blood pressure should be checked? Thanks

What my consultant says is that high BP ought to be treated but it's not a reason not to use HRT. High BP should be taken into account as part of an overall health check up. HRT itself does not raise BP, but obviously very high BP along with other factors is a risk for stroke and heart disease longer term.
Patches and transdermal HRT do not raise the risk of blood clots so your risk now would be just the same as if you weren't using HRT.

You can buy BP monitors from Boots or Amazon for around £20 if it's something you want to check, or maybe ask your Dr next time your HRT is reviewed- should be after the first 3 months, then at least once a year.
