Menopausal mum

Hi,
I'm very worried about my mum, she's 48 and just don't seem the same anymore!! We used to be very close, but these days she barely leaves the house, don't really want to see anyone, barely has an appetite and when she does it's junk, and her mood swings are horrendous!! She knows she hasn't been herself but at the same time is this really the menopause? I don't know the ins and outs of her periods etc but I'm concerned for her mental health!! She seems like a whole different person to be around. She also just seems to sleep like all day, well majority of it anyway and she's always had a very bad sleeping pattern at night. How long could this all last for? I can cope with her mood swings and I would just take it,if I knew this really was the menopause and that she will be okay and hopefully get herself back to normal. She's been on antidepressants for years also.
Any help and advice would be very much appreciated.

Sorry to hear this.
This is not normal menopause behaviour! Far from it.

You need to encourage your mum to go back to her GP and get an assessment of her mental health and drugs she's on.

She might benefit from HRT or CBT (talking therapy) to get to the bottom of why she is depressed and sleeps all day.

She doesn't work? Does she have a partner or husband? Where are they in all of this?
