What can I ask the GP for?

I'm 45 and think in perimenopause. My periods are irregular - closer together - and I suffer from awful pmt for the first time in my life. I've put on weight which I find hard to budge. I'm due to go for a smear so I thought I would mention my symptoms to the GP in the hope of getting something.

What kind of thing could I ask for? I don't use contraception (DH had the snip). I would love something that stopped my periods altogether as I find them hard to deal with due to disability, as well as helping with the pmt.
