HRT Implant?

Has anyone ever used an HRT implant?

I'm on patches. Tried gel and didn't get on with it. Won't take the tablets.

Patches have been great, but:

Sometimes I forget to replace.
Sometimes they come off.
I have permanent squares of grubby glue on my hips.
Sometimes I become sensitive to the glue.

Why was an implant never suggested to me? Any disadvantages to them? I'm going to be on this stuff for years, so an implant seems logical.

Do you mean an oestrogen 'rod'. My understanding is they are usually only for women who have had their ovaries removed or who cannot use other types of HRT.
The downside I have read is that it's hard to control the dose- you get what it gives you- and can be hard to remove if it's not suitable.
You would still need progestogens by some other route.

I already take oestrogen-only HRT because I have a Mirena.

Surely the dosage issue is similar for the contraceptive implant? Doesn't the device dissolve at a fixed rate, just like the patches?

I think it's different.

Only quoting what my dr has said. I heard it was hard to remove and the dose can't be altered. with patches or gel you can use different amounts.

Sounds interesting OP - I'm also on patches + Mirena.

I agree it sounds a feasible alternative - I was on tiny Estradot patches 100mg, but after manufacturing issues I'm on different ones now that are almost five times bigger in size. Like you, I miss replacing them regularly, hate the glue, and have nowhere to discreetly put them if on holiday wearing a bikini first world problem

Yes, Estradot were my favourite, too.

Use baby oil to remove the glue.
