Hi there

I've been on the mirena coil about 6 months and the past few days I am shedding a lot of hair. Loads comes out when I run hands through.

Could this be the coil?

I've got exactly the same and have been worrying about it but seemed silly to contact the Dr for something they will probably see as trivial Confused

It's so not trivial! I went to the doctor today to talk about the coil - I'm still bleeding six months in - and I said I've got this shedding. She's really really nice but she knows fuck all about this stuff. I don't know whether to just take it out. I've been told that it contains the progesterome that is more inclined towards hair loss than other progesterones.

You know what, I'm going to have it removed. Decision made.

How long has it been happening for you Miss Cherry? How bad is the shedding?

My hair's falling out too :/

Had the coil for 4 months now and it's been the last 6 weeks..... strange thing is I had a Mirena for 15 years or more (4 coils) but following messy divorce swore off men and had it removed and was starting menopause (I'm 48) then I met DP and as my mum fell pregnant at 45! Thought be a good idea I get another coil. Also had horribly heavy periods and knew they would stop.

All well and good within 1 month no periods however within 3 I'm like a moulting German shepherd Confused. Have others found it continues ( the hair loss) I have lots of very thick hair too so it's only obvious to me but I still hate it

From what I've read, it doesn't always stop. I, too, have enough hair but I'm not prepared to take the risk! Hair loss really sucks. I had it a few years back and ended up taking lots of ferrous fumerate (low ferritin) but it was so damaging to my self-esteem, constantly taking furballs out every time I touched my hair.

My hair has also started falling after four months of using the mirena.

Where does everyone' hair fall from? All over or in certain parts

Mine's just from my head atm.. it looks like some one's shaved a shaggy dog every time I have a shower!
I did have alopecia when I was a kid though, so thought it might be stress related initially.
