How old are you?

Under 50 women need contraception for 2 years after their last period, over 50 it's one year. However no periods on Mirena can be due to the hormones and not because you have gone through the menopause, so depending on your age will depend on what is recommended for contraception after your coil has been removed.

If you are 55 or over you can assume you are no longer fertile and just have the Mirena removed. Under 55 they may recommend that your FSH is tested twice, 6 weeks apart, and then if below a certain level take the coil out and no further contraception needed.

Also, have you made the appointment specifically for coil removal? Not all nurses can do it, and may not be in the right room with the right equipment. You need to avoid sex for 5 days prior (depending on your age).
