Menopace& St John's Wort

Hi
Has anyone taken Menopace with St Johns Wort?
I have another post on here.I can't have hrt due to Factor 5 Leiden a clotting disorder.so need to try some thing herbal.am already taking SJW tabs for depression&wondering if it's safe to take with them?

As I said in your previous post on this, you ought to discuss HRT further with your GP and refer to the NICE guidelines which say women with your condition should have further tests to establish their true risk of clotting, because there is no increased risk per se in clotting with transdermal forms of HRT.

Menopace and SJW- ask the pharmacist or google. There is a long list of what can't be used with SJW including various antibiotics for example.

Yes I know I have Googled it& nothing comes up about taking it with Menopace.
Also says alot on the leaflet with the SJW but nothing about that!
My Dr isn't in till tomorrow so can't talk to her till then.also if she actually does agree to refer me to a specialist in this i could still be waiting wks/ months to be seen!
Just need to start taking something& getting it sorted!

Is there any chance you could pay for a private appt with a gynaecologist? They could still recommend to your GP that you have blood tests etc on the NHS. Seeing someone privately- usually within 2-3 weeks.

No we haven't got the money to go privately.
Will ask at chemists& go from there I guess

I used to work in Holland and Barrett and a lot of woman came in for Black Cohosh when dealing with menopause. Not sure if that helps but they sweared by it x

menopace is mainly some herbs, vitamins and minerals. I think it should be ok to use it with SJW as long as there isn't SJW in Menopace too are you could overload. I think there are some concerns over SJW if you sunbathe- check this out.
Black cohosh has mixed reports- there are some reports of liver damage so you need to be careful. Look at the RCOG leaflet online on alternatives to HRT- I've linked to it several times here and it's easily googled.

If this is what you are taking it's just vitamins- tbh you could get the same from food.

Just out of interest Polly how much would it be to go private?

Am also worked about the Osteoporosis risk for me too.as both my mum& sister have it.so need to know if any of the herbal remedies are also good for that.I know u can get Menopause with calcium but don't know if thatso enough

costs vary depending on who you see and where you live. If you have a private hospital near you, have a look at their website under consultants/ gynaecologists and see if anyone specialises in menopause - or the NHS consultants may well work privately some of the time too- most do.
You can call their PAs to ask for fees.
They are usually in the region of £180-£200 for the first appt which lasts around 30-45 minutes.

Herbal remedies won't do anything for osteoporosis. You should have a look at the website of the National Osteoporosis Society, UK. Loads of info there.
Osteoporosis is hereditary often, so you do need to take the risk seriously. HRT is the treatment for women under 60 who have low bone density. Calcium and Vit D supplements will help as well as lots of weight bearing exercise and foods rich in calcium.

I apparently can't have a dexa scan until June when I turn 50.I have to go bk to gp then& she will refer me for one.
