Peri menopause or just one of those things?

I'm 42 and since my first period 30 years ago I'm lucky in that I've always been incredibly consistent in my cycle.
The only times I've ever had a late/missing period was due to pregnancy.
Then suddenly about 2 weeks ago I expected my period, felt all the usual symptoms but no period. I knew it was impossible that i was pregnant so I decided to wait and see.
Out of the blue my period has started.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Should I wait and see what happens next month before even giving it any thought?

Hi Pink don't know if you've read my similar thread on here (it's near yours somewhere!) but I've had the same problem.

I'm a couple of years older than you, but my AF has always been v regular, every 28 days, only ever missed because of PG.

But I was expecting my AF two weeks ago today and it didn't happen - and still hasn't. I knew it was highly unlikely I was PG (DH has had vasectomy) but was still worried as so unusual for me so I saw my Practice Nurse yesterday.

She first off did a PG test which was negative then said that basically it's nothing to worry about an v 'normal' in your early/mid 40's for your cycle to become irregular, and sometimes to miss a period completely. It's all part of the Perimenopause, and AF changes are just one of the symptoms you can experience in the lead up to the Menopause when the stop completely.

There's every chance your AF will go back to normal next month, or it may not. Both things are normal.

I would recommend having a look at the thread I started on here a few days ago because I was given loads of helpful advice.

Oh and btw the website menopausematters is really good.

In terms of managing the inconvenience, can I recommend washable pads? You can wear them all the time without upsetting your skin. Should you be caught out you have some protection. If they get soiled, move on to traditional disposable products if you want to.

I also found that after I had supposedly finished, I would get another flush a day or two later. Again, washables are great for this.

I'm having a horrible day. Not that the missing period has arrived it is heavier and more painful than usual.

The washable are a good idea if things become unpredictable.

So I have finally just got my v late AF - strangely enough I was also two weeks late... Getting awful cramps but just glad it's decides to make an appearance.
