3 Oct ablation - 3 Nov bleeding again

It's a month since my ablation.

Yesterday I started bleeding again. It's like a full blown period, cramps, small clots and bright red blood, not heavy but it's there!

If my uterine lining was burnt away/removed, where is this blood coming from?

I'm totally gutted. How long do I wait before I go back to my GP? A month, 2 months. Will the bleeding stop?

It seems to have stopped?

So I'm wondering if this was a period, one that actually has a beginning, middle and end. Which will be a novelty after months and months of constant bleeding.

We shall see.

I've even downloaded a period tracker onto my phone

I had part of Saturday, Sunday & Monday blood free only for it to start up again.

Medium flow , with clots bright red blood.

I fear my ablation has failed.

I'll give it to the beginning of December then I'm going back to my GP.

Where's the very, very annoyed face?

Going to see my GP next week. By then I will have been bleeding for a month.

Need a hysterectomy now! I've tried everything else

Hi. How are you doing now? Did you research the surgeon who operated on you?

The bleeding stopped, 4 days before I was due to see my GP. That was 3 weeks ago now.

I've had no bleeding since. I'm cautiously optimistic that maybe it's worked. I'm still on high alert and carry tampons, pads with me. I don't quite believe it yet.

Ha ha! 19 days blood free and here we go again!

Started bleeding again last night. Full on, bright red, cramps and feel yuck.

I'm at a loss but feel I need to see what happens over the next couple of months. I don't think the ablation has worked properly at all now.

Oh god. You poor thing. That is no good.

What type did you have?

4 days of bleeding and it's stopped again.

God knows, i just know that the chance of having to have a hysterectomy rises dramatically after an ablation. Ot does not sound as if yours has neen very succesful

It's definitely an improvement than constantly bleeding. It literally never stopped before. I had months and months of it and it really got me down.

I shall wait and see what happens during January.

I had an ablation in May. Had literally zero after effects for a week, at which point I suddenly flooded then bled increasingly lightly for about three weeks.

Since then I've continued to have periods. They're slightly lighter and less painful than they were before (I now only have one day where I can't leave the house rather than 2-3, yay! ) but they're still interfering with my life.

I've been back to see the surgeon who did it and he said that as there's been some improvement, however small, he wants to wait until next year to see if they continue to improve. I'm supposed to wait until March but I think if there's no discernible improvement by January I'm going to start pestering for an appointment.

I've then got to decide whether to go for a second ablation or just have a hysterectomy. Which option is more appealing depends on where in my cycle you ask, during my periods I think I'd happily remove the lot myself with a rusty spoon. Being sensible I'll probably have another ablation done, mainly because my mum went through the same thing and her second ablation did the trick so fingers crossed it'll work the same for me.

Trionic I feel exactly the same. Now, at this point in my 'no bleeding' phase a hysterectomy isn't what I want but once I start bleeding again I'll be tearing my hair out!

I presume I'm going to have monthly (or so) bleeding, which if it's 4 days or so a month I can cope with.

It's just a waiting game

Ad hoc bleeding has continued! There is no pattern to it at all. Last night I had to get up to take painkillers as the menstrual cramps were so bad.

I can't run/exercise as I have terrible breast tenderness, plus I feel washed out. I have no other menopausal symptoms. I'm 48 next month.

Is this how the menopause is? Have I got to either put up with it or push for a hysterectomy?

I'm so disappointed that the ablation didn't work.

Hi I've had the same problem as you. Had an ablation on the 9th november,have had 3 increasingly painful periods since, that have also been very heavy.
It obviously hasnt worked. I saw my consultant today and they have put me on the waiting list for a hysterectomy.
I'm so didapppinted that it hasnt worked but am hopeful that the hysterectomy will be successful. I hope you see some improvement soon.

I've been to see my GP this morning and have got an appointment (via Health Harmonie) next Friday to see a consultant to get the ball rolling for a hysterectomy. She also prescribed some Northisterone and iron tables as I've bled heavily throughout January.

Do you know how long the wait is in your area?

The consultant said it wasnt that long a wait-maybe march or early april. Hopefully it will be soon

Oh forgot to mention my consuktant prescribed esmya. I've had this in the past. It completely stops my bleeding but does give me hot flushes and you can only take it for 3 months at a time. Might be worth asking your doctor about it.

Wow March/April - that's not long. I'm really scared about it, I've never been in hospital (apart from maternity to have 2 babies) and never been put under anaesthetic.

But I can't carry on like this. I could bleed for another 7 years,

I know how you feel. I'm terrified too but the pain/bleeding is really impacting my life so I'll just have to be brave and hopefully by the summer it'll be all sorted.

I had Novasure in 2011 and had bleeding for the first 3 months on and off but since then I have not had any bleeding apart from occasional spotting but not enough to need to have tampons. Up until I started going through the menopause(late last year) I would still get monthly stomach cramps but no bleeding. Having Novasure changed my life completely. Before I had it I would constantly flood and it affected my life as had to have days off work and worried about going out.
I do hope the doctors manage to sort things out for you
