Unpleasant sensation - does anyone else get this?

I'm through the menopause and out the other side, but of course I still get the hormonal surges etc. I also get hot flushes that go on for days at a time, and occasionally for several days, a thing that I can only describe as feeling uncomfortable in my own skin: sort of uncomfortable and stiff, but everywhere, all over, making it impossible to relax and mucking up my sleep. Anyone else experienced this?

None of us are ever 'though the menopause'. :)
We go through peri meno but menopause (literally meaning 'no periods') is the stage of life after a final period. You also won't get hormonal surges once you are no longer having periods because your estrogen levels have fallen right off and you don't have any progesterone if you aren't ovulating. If you are having flushes these are not due to hormones but to loss of /lack of estrogen.
what you are having are menopausal symptoms due to low estrogen. The meno symptoms can continue for years and years and some never go. Joint stiffness if that's what it is, is a common symptoms. You could try fish oils or maybe exercise like yoga or Pilates to help stretch your joints and muscles.

Wondering why you answered other than to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. Oestrogen is a hormone so you're contradicting yourself. I didn't say joint stiffness, no, because that's not the problem and certainly not what I described.

I said that you can't have hormonal surges if you are post menopausal. You only get erratic levels during peri. I thought you were calling your symptoms 'hormonal surges'. If you aren't having any periods and haven't for 12 months then that's classed as being post menopause. Periods with symptoms is peri menopause.

Where's the contradiction in what I said? All women continue to have some estrogen all their lives (made by fat cells) but only a very low level, not enough to control loss of estrogen symptoms( for some women.)

I'm 48 and I get what I describe as creepy itches. That's what it feels like all over my skin. Is it similar?

I nearly posted something similar recently. Does this sound the similar? For a while now, while having a hot flush (mainly at night) I'm also getting a horrible, uncomfortable sensation, mainly on the soles of my feet. It's almost impossible to describe - the only words that come close are hypersensitivity, pain-but-not-quite, tingling-but-not-tingling. It's very uncomfortable but not unbearable. It and the hot flush disappear after a couple of minutes, but repeat 4-5 times overnight . Yours sound far worse though, lasting for so long.

Auser you've reminded me, I got a LOT of itches! Only for a few weeks.

Crabb uncomfortable is the best way I can describe it, but everywhere. I can't stay still, even lying down. Yours sounds similar.

That sounds awful, Sabine. Have you talked to your GP about it? Have you tried HRT? I've just come off HRT because it was doing my head in - couldn't cope with the PMT-like symptoms it was causing. Unfortunately the cessation has led to the hot flushes recurring, but there are other formulations I can try (according to GP) if the hot flushes are too much.
