Has anyone tried taking Kalms to relieve symptoms of the menopause? I had them recommended by someone who uses them for anxiety but noticed they're recommended for menopause symptoms. I started taking them yesterday and wondered if anyone else has tried them?

Your friend's improvement could be total coincidence. In peri, symptoms come and go when hormones fluctuate.
TBH unless the makers of Kalms have done any proper scientific trials, and they are published, they ought not to say the products help menopause- it's just preying on women's desperation to find something to help!

Kalms contain valerian- the herb- which is a very weak sleeping aid so it may take the edge of anxiety.

The anxiety is meno is caused by loss of oestrogen. if you don't want to try HRT then this info from the RCOG gives proper advice on what may help and what won't .

sorry- did I misunderstand- is your friend taking them as a sleeping aid / anxiety aid or for meno?

You might like to read the NICE menopause guidelines which are very helpful. They state that women with anxiety and mood swings in meno should not be given prescription drugs like ADs to help with it, but use HRT and lifestyle changes (exercise and diet, and maybe CBT etc.)

Hi, friend is only young and nowhere near menopause just mentioned to me that they claim to help with it. I'm sure you're right, I'm just so fed up of my face suddenly sweating, and having disturbed sleep due to overheating I thought I'd try it. Reluctant to try hrt as no menstruation issues, just hot flushes. Not sure if associated risks are worth it. Thanks for the links, I'll read them x

The risks are very, very small. Have a look at the website Menopause Matters (uner HRT risks and benefits) or Womens Health Concern and there are some graphs that put the risks into perspective- comparing it with being overweight, drinking alcohol and being sedentary- all higher risks.

I've taken Kalms on and off for years but only when my sleeping has been what I thought was bad. Since I've monitored it though, through my fitbit, I found that my sleeping was always bad [4-5 hours and I need 8] and what I thought was bad was terrible [2-3 hours].

I bought some Melatonin whilst in France this week and had some for the last 2 nights and have slept the best 2 nights sleep in 7 years.

Banned here unfortunately. I am seeing my doctor this week for my test results and will definitely mention this. Stated HRT patches 3 weeks ago and if I can sort the sleep out then I will be tickety boo to be honest.

Thanks Doreen, in what way have you found HRT helpful? Has it helped with flushes/sweating?
