peri-menopausal? is nausea a common symptom?

is nausea a symptom? i get this when my period is due but not necessarily the bleed. Almost the same sensation as when i was pregnant!

Hi, yes nausea is normal for me too. When I had regular periods I would feel sick for a week before my period, just like early pregnancy. Now peri menopausal and still get random nausea. It's horrible. Am never sick though.

thanks Pinkie that's reassuring if unpleasant. At first i was so paranoid i actually did a test even though it was 99.9% unlikely to be +ve !!!

Hi Mash, I started getting the nausea when I came off the pill and for the first few months kept thinking that I was pregnant as it felt exactly the same. Took a while but started to realise that it was hormone related. It's horrible. Am peri now so periods less frequent but still get hormonal nausea but not monthly. It was so bad that the doctor gave me anti sickness tablets (even though I was never actually sick) and they are a god send as completely take away that horrible feeling of nausea. I hate feeling sick more than anything.

no it's not. If you are feeling nauseous often you ought to see your GP to rule out other conditions.

Yes it's probably a good idea to go and get checked out at the doctors. I did and had various tests done including being out on a gluten free diet. I also went to a specialist who told me there was nothing wrong and that that it was hormone related. The nausea was always at the same time of the month which in a way was reassuring.

I've read that nausea can accompany hot flushes and also be a premenstrual thing in perimenopause.
