Constant bleeding< on day 50 now.

I have been bleeding constantly for 50 days now, I'm on my 2nd lot of trail tablets,40mg Provera/day. I'm a week in and still no change to the bleeding.
I have a 3cm fibroid, and a thick womb lining, that is causing the bleeding.
My next course of action would be an ablation, but that may not stop the bleeding due to the fibroid. Then it would be a hysterectomy. I am so tired that I'm considering just going for the hysterectomy now.
I'm 51 and have probably been peri-menopausal for about a year.
Anybody chooseto have a hysterectomy?

FWIW that's a v small fibroid. I have one and didn't even know until a scan- never caused any problems. The ablation surely would help and the fibroid is just a benign lump covered with uterine lining so if the lining goes, the bleeding should go- or they could remove the fibroid too - no?

I had the MC in years ago, didn't like it, it obviously didn't like me either as it fell out after a few years.
The ablation should stop the bleeding but apparently there is no guarantee and I may have to have it done again in the future.
I'm thinking if I have to go under GA then I may as well do something that will stop the bleeding 100%.
I have no problem with a hysterectomy (other than the GA) I would be ecstatic to not have periods. I'm heading into menopause anyway, so it shouldn't be a huge shock to the system....Right????

If you had bad side effects from the Mirena, I can understand how you will feel. But our bodies do change, so side effects 10 years ago or whatever may not happen again. it's far easier to put that in and give it a whirl for 3 months then remove if no good than have either of the 2 ops. Likewise the EA- personally, I'd always try the least invasive treatments first and then re-think. You don't know it won't work- might be just the answer! And a hyster. can have very serious negatives. Not for some women, but it's not an op to take lightly. What does your dr suggest?

Dr has said if the proverb doesn't work out then it's an ablation then a hysterectomy. The amount of hormone in the MC would possibly not be enough to stop the bleeding apparently. I have been bleeding erratically for the last 6 months in total. I was anemic due to the amount of blood loss. These tablets have taken the bleeding down to a normal period. I am so fed up I just want a solution that will work now😢

If I were you I would try the ablation...if no joy then hysterectomy
I was offered an ablation and the only reason I didn't was my age (in only 43) and my bleeding is now only bad for the first 24 hours

I can see where you are coming from with respect to the hysterectomy and I think I would feel the same. Other than the GA, what are the pros and cons of both operations?

An ablation should stop the bleeding. A hysterectomy will stop the bleeding....
I know it's not as black and white as that but after 7 weeks of continuous bleeding I want a permanent solution.
I have an appointment tomorrow as the provera isn't working, so we will see what we can agree for the next course of action.
My logic is if I have to have GA then have it once and be done with it. I have no sentimental attachment to my reproductive organs at the moment

I must say that I'm not seeing the pros of an ablation given your periods should stop with the menopause soon. Having said that, there might be physical pros/cons of one over the other.

I think I would opt for a hysterectomy but that is because my mother had early uterine cancer so it would remove that worry for me. (She's fine now though and I can't think of any negatives from her hysterectomy although she was late 60s I think)

Have you thought about accessing forums for women who have had hysterectomies- HysterSisters is one I've heard of. You will then be able to read about the pros and cons. There are loads of women who don't look back after the op but equally there are others who suffer from bowel and bladder problems as a result of it. It's also likely to accelerate menopause (this is a fact!) so you need to be also thinking about how you'd like to manage that - with HRT or not.

Had another meeting with my gynae today and had a long discussion on what other options were available. I have ruled out the ablation, mainly because it isnt guaranteed to stop the bleeding. A hysterectomy it is then.
So I am on a higher dose of Primolut for 10 days, which definitely works but isn't long term. Basically I have these next couple of weeks to psyc myself up for GA.
The hysterectomy it's self isn't causing me any concerns, I am researching and have joined Hystersisters to get as much info as I can.
I am actually relieved that the decision has been made.

A little update: I had a doctors appointment on Monday to discuss types of hysterectomy etc. I had my bloods taken, my hemoglobin was 74. I was immediately put in a ward and given 3 bags of blood I was so anemic.
I will have my op in 2 weeks time. I can't wait. I had doubts and reservations, still hoping it would sort itself out or one of the treatments I was on would work. I have felt so bad for so long. The blood transfusion was the final straw.
I need my life back and I have no doubts I am doing the right thing.

Just read this thread. Glad you are getting it sorted now. What a shock to need a transfusion.
I have had a Mirena coil fitted recently to help with heavy prolonged periods. I can't imagine bleeding for 50 days.
