Hives and perimenopause

regular until three months ago, now hot flushes and three missed periods.

and...
waking up itching. little marks all over my hands and up my arms. not crawling sensation just itching, like when had hives during pregnancy.
in fact, they might even be hives.
any horrific link between hives and menopause that i don't know about?

Menopausal acne is a well known phenomenon as is itchy skin. I never has acne as a teenager but when I started to become peri-menopausal developed itchy red blothces on my face which weren't acne as such but rasied red hot bumps that I imagine are what people call hives. When I started HRT they disappeared never to return - until I tried coming off HRT for 3 months and they did start to come back. I only had them on my face though. Came on here as really struggling with general itchiness and have hives on my jawline. First thing l saw was your post so looking at all the symptoms has helped me. My hot flushes are over but the new thing now is hives. Knowing it's a side affect is a relief. Deciding what to do is another thing. I literally never had a spot in my life and now in my 50s l turn spotty. It's bloody annoying.

I recently tried the BCP to control my peri anxiety and depression. Microgynon gave me daily spotting. Switched to Marvelon and the first pack sent really well. But starting the second pack my mood plummeted and I got a rash of little itchy.spots all.over my throat and chest. Think it was caused by the build up of progesterone?

I went to the GP today about the perimenopause and mentioned the the itching. The marks looked like scabies but it seemed unlikely that I'd have scabies as no one else in my family does and I can't think of a way I'd contract it. I mentioned that the last time I had itched in this way was when I was pregnant and developed obstetric choleostasis (a liver complaint that causes intense itching).

She looked up and asked me if I was taking any supplements for perimenopause. . I said, "Black Colbash. She told me to stop and said that it has been associated with liver complaints. She also sent me to the hospital today for some liver function tests!

I've stopped taking the supplements (which I bought in a reputable US chemist...) and the itching has also since stopped (but that could be down to something else).

I then googled black colbash and while it seems to be rare, there are a fair number of people with liver problems, including liver failure, and choleostasis, developed as result of taking black colbash.
