Having periods despite using the Pill as HRT???

Have posted this on general health, but think it might be more relevant on here.

Basically I'm in my 40s, with a long history of PMS and PND (though completely recovered from PND and was well for 10 years).

A couple of years ago my cycle suddenly got shorter and my PMS went through the roof. Suddenly getting awful anxiety, bad depression and extreme mood swings. Was only getting maybe 10 good days a month.

ADs didn't help. Neither did HRT. As a last resort I'm back on the Pill, taking it continuously to try and stabilise my symptoms. So far it seems to be working really well except I get constant brown spotting.

Also, last month I still had a 'period' with fresh blood mixed in with the usual brown spotting and my symptoms came back for 2-3 days. Then I was perfectly fine for 2.5 weeks until halfway into my 3rd pack. Now I'm having another 'period' with much more fresh blood than last time, and a return of my symptoms. Have been bleeding now for over 3 days and I'm feeling very low and anxious Sad

I don't understand how I can still have a period, complete with headaches and cramps whilst taking the Pill continuously???

Has anyone else experienced this, and did it finally settle down?
