I'm 48 nearly and have been having big gaps firvthe last two - three years . A year this time then two periods and gone again - my GP said that it was fine .

The 'rule' is that any post menopausal bleeding has to be investigated.
Post menopausal is defined as 12 months without a period.
Chilli- it's probably okay but to be on the safe side you ought to see your GP who is likely to arrange a scan if they are following guidelines.
The risk of endometrial cancer is very low under 50, but to be on the safe side you ought to get it checked out.
If you were 50-ish and then had a period after a 2 or 3 year gap that would set alarm bells ringing.
