Postmenopausal, HRT for 2 years then sudden period!!

My mum is 55, has been postmenopausal and on HRT for 2 years (Elleste solo which is continuous oestrogen and has progesterone from the coil). Suddenly had a period (weeks worth of bleeding) and has been investigated yesterday. I'm moving abroad for work tomorrow and am worried sick!!! Anyone experience anything similar?

It is always wise to have bleeding like this checked out.

However, there are lots of possibilities that aren't cancer - the coil may be low on progesterone, or she may not be as post-menopausal as she thought!

Yes as DayLillie says there are various causes for unexplained bleeding but it is almost always investigated (usually to rule out cancer) in women who are (thought to be) through menopause.
