I've had spotting between periods before,s ago, 2 year went to dr who suggested a coil, but I really dont want one

had an internal vaginal scan 18 months ago for abnormal bleeding, scan was fine, no fibroids etc lining of womb fine

periods settled down again for a good few months, then went a bit erratic, then missed a period last summer, then went back to normal, then a bit late some months....all manageable, but noticed last month period was about 2 weeks late then normal but had spotting all month, then a normal period and now the spotting has continued.

its not heavy at all, very light, one towel does all day, but I'm getting fed up and a bit worried again

also had a smear a year ago which was fine

I just want this daft spotting to stop, but I dont want a coil! I've read the mini pill sorts this out, can anyone advise?

I'm 48, take iron regularly, not getting flushes or any other horrible symptoms but this spotting is making me anxious, I just want it to stop!

please, an advise would be appreciated.

I have known people with this- it's a hormone imbalance, caused by too little progesterone in the 2nd half of the month. It's probably happening because you aren't ovulating regularly and therefore the progesterone part of the cycle isn't happening. Yes, the mini pill can sort it because it's progestogen.

thank you so much for replying pinkfrocks, I was hoping you would reply as I have seen your advice here many times and I appreciate your knowledge!

do you think I should wait a month or two before asking for the mini pill, this has really only started last month and am not sure if I should maybe give it a bit longer to see if it settles down? the bleeding is annoying (and worrying to someone like me who has health anxiety), but not at all painful or heavy?

It might be a stop-start thing. Hard to know.

I think what you might find is that it comes and goes as with many peri symptoms- you might have a regular cycle then a few odd ones with this spotting and so it will go on for some time.

If it really bothers you now then go and discuss and ask for treatment, otherwise wait and see if it clears up.

thanks

this peri, does it last for long?
is it the run up to your periods stopping altogether?

why does periods change from what they've been like for years?

I've read so many of the threads here and seen so many threads with various symptoms I'm getting more and more confused!

again, thanks for your advice.
