Hi,

Hope some of you lovely ladies can help. I am 44 and have been peri for last 4 years. At age 40 started having very irregular periods every 14-21 days. At the time I had bloods, scan, smear etc through private gynae and all came back fine and was put down to hormonal changes due to age and it was suggested that I may have an earlier than average menopause. Last year I had 2 periods that were about 2 weeks late eg 42 ish days but then reverted back to 21 days. However, I have now officially missed 2 periods in a row the last one being in feb and I don't know what if anything I should be doing. I have done 4 pregnancy tests in the last 6 weeks all negative. Should I be having more blood tests and if so I have seen from previous threads that these should be done on day 3 and 14 but if I am not having periods what then? I am pretty sure that I no longer ovulate as before the problems started 4 years ago I always got ovulation pains and I haven't had these since. Gynae confirmed that this was a good indicator that my cycles were anovulatary hence the irregularity. Any advice greatly received.

what would your expectations be of the blood tests?

If your periods are erratic at 44 then peri meno is likely. This can go on for 5-10 years!

As you are on the young side for meno then it's worth thinking about and asking from HRT as a preventative treatment for other illnesses that you will be at risk from being low in oestrogen from mid 40s.
