Experiences?

Any experts on treatment?

There is so much conflicting advice and information out there, I would be interested in anyone's experience and advice.

TIA

Yes- but what is the context? Have you had a diagnosis?

Yes. I am wondering what options I have.
My fracture risk is very high.

Can you say a bit more about that and why? Treatment is different depending on what precisely is happening. Having a high risk is not the same as a diagnosis.
How old are you?
Are you post meno?
Why do you have a high risk?

I have just had a bone scan, am post menopausal with strong family history.
The results on the scan report say "osteoporosis", "Fracture risk very high".

The particular areas scanned were my hip and spine. I have back and hip pain++. No evidence of fracture atm.

They are writing to my GP.

Osteoporosis doesn't cause pain- only if you have a fracture such as your vertebra. Any other pain is likely to be arthritic or similar.

You need to find out your scores. -2.5 is the cut off point for a diagnosis.

Depending on how low your T score is, will influence treatment.

I suggest you have a good read of the website of the National Osteporosis Society.

Treatments include drugs- bisphosphonates, HRT, diet, lifestyle ( exercises to build bone) and lifestyle measures to reduce fracture risk.

You need a referral to a rheumatologist to sort this out.
