I've had heavy periods for years which recently shortened to 2 days but still heavy. This month it was late which has never happened before, however i just had a miniscule amount of blood twice which made me think it would start soon and then nothing else. I'm assuming this is the start of the menopause? I'm in my mid-late 40s.

Could be.

I am not quite there - am 47 - but have been reading up a little in preparation.

Be prepared though - it could still come on with a vengeance.
