Menopause or not??

Doctor says I am, I reminded her I'm still having periods so she said it must be perimenopause. How she came to this? My blood tests showed LH 82.1 and FSH 16.7. I've read that these levels are normal when ovulating (confirmed by a GP friend) yet my doctor says not at all. I was ovulating at the time of my blood test. I'm having a repeat blood test which I had to request. I know it's a case of wait and see what these tests show but wondered if anyone else has experience with blood test levels?

Seems a bit strange. Could I ask why you were seeing the GP?

During the perimenopausal, hormone levels hop all over the place and a single test (a bit like an MOT) tells you only what is happening that day.

Long story, I have ankylosing spondylitis (imflammatory arthritis) so at the doc at lot. I noticed that a lot of my symptoms were around the time of being due on or ovulations so have been convinced my hormones are all over the place for a while x

So my second blood test came back normal! If I hadn't pushed for this test I'd be on hrt now! I get so many hormonal symptoms though, hot, emotional etc. I'm at a loss. X

Your GP ought to know that blood tests are not accurate in terms of menopausal state. You need 2 tests in a month: one around day 3 of your cycle and another mid cycle ( after ovulation.) But even doing this, levels can be all over the place and change daily or an a month by month basis.
I was told I was post menopause (by a blood test) at 51 when in fact I had another 3 years to go.

You need to treat your symptoms, not what a tests shows ( unless you are under 45 and having a very early and identifiable menopause.)

If HRT works for the symptoms that is the proof you need it and vice versa.

Spoken to a different gp today as I've come on and yet again I'm in agony. Can't poo for labour pains. She's sending me for an internal scan as I have had a fibroid before. So fed up with feeling crappy all the time x
