I need energy

Am 52. In the menopause now I think as heavy periods for a couple of years then scant now not had one since Oct 2014. A few minor hot flushes which are not a problem. Spotty chin periodically. Have got off lightly so far but...

My energy levels are appalling (could nod off several times daily) and I have awful nausea. Anyone similar? Any suggestions? Thanks. Smile

Bump.

Just me then, that feels like the walking dead? Like the energy supply to my body has been unplugged?

I feel your pain, at 30 I hit the menopause early!! Tiedness has been the worst part of it!! I nap daily! HRT definitely helps! After 2 years in still struggling and am desperate to find something to help!!! X

Slingclutter · 06/02/2015 15:39

NOt just you!! You have my sympathies!!

I'm nearly 51 and on various hormones but in menopause now.

Have (thankfully) infrequent hot flushes and lots of nights when I wake up at 4am.

I am about 2 stone overweight and terribly unfit which doesn't help either (starting to tackle this atm).

Eating less sugar and less carbs definitely helps. And wierdly, sleeping a bit less than usual.

Is nausea a usual part of menopause? I have it (but I thought for different reasons).

Sorry! Forgot to add main point of post (yes have 'addled brain' symptoms too!!)

If your diet and weight and fitness are all in order, then suggest going to doc to check that thyroid/hormone levels aren't totally out of whack???

Thanks ladies.

Does HRT make you gain weight? I'm a fine example of Middle aged spread now, sadly.

HRT doesn't make anyone gain weight though some women find their boobs get slightly bigger if they are on a higher dose but that can be controlled with the dosage.
The research shows no proof of weight gain with HRT. However- big but!- taking HRT coincides with middle age when everyone's metabolism changes. So it's easy to blame HRT when in fact we all need to eat less, and exercise more if we are to have any chance of staying the same weight we were in our youth. I eat around half of what I could when I was younger and have to be incredibly disciplined about no cake, biscuits, snacks and rubbishy food, except as a very rare treat.

Euphemia I take a general vitamin and omega 369. Thanks for that tip.

Am starting some regular exercise again (gave up when I'd been unwell) so they say using energy creates energy, or some such. We will see.

I find certain smells make me feel sick as they do when you are pregnant.I guess it is the hormonal changes

scotchmincepie · 09/02/2015 14:23

Have you had a blood test recently? - this may not be menopause related - so anaemic or thyroid problem.

HRT definitely gave me more energy. But I also had a blood test and was very anaemic due to years of heavy periods and also have low B12.

So prescription iron and a sublingual B12 tablet really helped with getting the energy levels back up. It might be worth checking.

I've always been insomniac - but perimenopause hasn't helped!

Eliza22 · 09/02/2015 15:38

All bloods good recently. Never had hormone levels checked but probably little point as I know I'm menopausal.

Well in that case - HRT certainly helped me with energy levels - made me feel more like me if you know what I mean. Gave me the get up and go to start C25K - which a flu virus over Christmas then knocked on the head!

Eliza22 · 09/02/2015 18:27

I did C25K last year and it was bloody marvellous. My hips and thighs slimmed down massively. But in July, I was unwell and ended up in hospital and when I came out I felt terrible for months. Needless to say, I gained all the weight back but was powerless to do anything about it.

May go to the GP and talk hrt.
