i'm 51 and have had regular periods up til recently. This month my period has been very heavy and so far has lasted 2 weeks with no signs of stopping. Is this normal. Or should I see a doctor?

Mine started going like that late forties. I ended up having the Merina Coil fitted to stop this nonsense as I daren't go out for the surprise flooding.

The coil stopped them. Go to your GP. They should give you a test for the menopause.

My periods were regular as clockwork for decades, but the menopause has made them irratic. I had a couple recently with bleeding lasting for about 3 weeks; and now nothing since November. I'll be thrilled if they've stopped for good.

Thanks - I will go to the GP.

Bowlersarm - the sooner I'm period free the better!

Me too. I actually posted before about being excited that my periods were hopefully on the way out.
I know menopause can come with an array of crappy side effects but the disappearance of my period is something I am sooooo looking forward too.
I too was regular, now it's 19-37 day cycles. It's the not knowing when or how long, how heavy that hacks me off.

Mitzi, do go to your go. I've had the same. Normal, regular (mostly) periods then suddenly a really heavy one that went on and on. GP gave me something to stop the bleeding and also sent me for a scan to check for fibroids, and did blood test for hormone levels. They always need to check things out, it seems.

Duh! That should have said "do go to your GP".
