hi, my menstrual cycle has been awry for a year. Previous uneventful, asymptomatic 30 day regular cycle now lurches from 21 -28 days. At the end of last year I had a period that lasted for almost 3 weeks, thankfully it hasn't happened again. My PMS is terrible, I can feel the onset way before the event, my bowels go awry for a couple of days and I just feel wretched. When I had the mammoth period I had a normal transvaginal ultrasound, consultant gynae review and smear. I'm not taking any hormonal contraceptive.
So is this the beginning? Should I see the GP in view of my age or are there herbal substances which actually make a difference? Thanks for any guidance.

You need to see a gynae again ideally and have your bloods tested properly for FSH levels ( 2 tests in a month are needed so don't be fobbed off with 1 test.) Having said that blood tests can be unreliable if you are in peri.

You are a bit young for meno- 10 years really. Is anything else going on such as stress or illness that might affect your cycles?
Have they tested your thyroid?

You could be on the wind-down for menopause by 45 which is young and you'd be advised to take HRT at least up to 51-ish.

See your GP and don't bother with herbs- they aren't helpful.

Thanks pinkfrocks. Mum had early menopause and was almost finished by my age so suspect I am following, albeit more slowly. My thyroid was checked as were FSH levels last year/beginning of this and both normal although FSH was just within norms. No illness but work has been horrendous this last year, am taking steps to address that. Thanks for your advice, will see GP again.

My FHS levels were normal but I am in peri. I am 40.
My GP recommended the coil which us fantastic.

Thanks fidelma how did you get diagnosed?

GP agreed that I have a lot of symptoms. The coil has calmed most down and no periods is a revelation.
