I am 46 so in the whole possible menopause age range but I have a Mirena coil so no periods to use to judge by. I sleep badly but take anti-histamines for eczema which help with this and I now take nightly. I am much warmer than I used to be (no arguments with DH about the heating but no actual hot flushes).

But....new symptom....need help.

Most of the time, especially in the evenings and at night when it is much worse, I feel as if things are crawling inside me. It is like a kind of internal irritation, almost like an itch on the inside, or a post coffee buzz. I feel sort of antsy and twitchy but the feeling is physical rather than mental. It is really getting to me. I feel a bit like I want to run around, like a kind of twitchy child who can't sit still. But, exercise makes no real difference.

It is beginning to worry me, and make me wake suddenly in the night (in spite of strong anti-histamines) and my worries are compounded by the thought that it might be something else, present in my family (MS) although that is fairly unlikely, it is still a worry.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Might this help?

Thanks. That is really interesting. Mine is more on the inside (I scratch a lot anyway from eczema) and feels like a sort of agitation. But, I think it is probably peri-menopausal. I certainly hope it isn't any of the other things. I am going to make an appointment with the adr.

Could it be restless legs? Do you get it in the evenings and at night? I get this but magnesium supplements help a lot.

Bakeoffcakes · 27/10/2014 22:20

I get the exact same symptoms, Especially the feeling like i need to run about or do some star jumps or something. It's very similar to a feeling of high anxiety, I think.

I seem to get it more when I'm premenstrual, though I'm 48 now and my cycle is all over the place, so I seem to be getting it at very random times.

Sorry, not very helpful!

Just a thought, could it be the antihistamines? Maybe try a different type? Or have you been taking them a while?

FurryDogMother · 27/10/2014 22:29

I get this when I take Nytol, which contains an anti-histamine - diphenhydramine to be precise. Could that be causing it?

Roseformeplease · 27/10/2014 22:32

Been taking them a while and only take them at night, although this happens all the time, night and day. I have had restless legs before but this is sort of restless entire body.

Firstly (and I hate saying this because it is shit) I am glad I am not alone. Will try magnesium supplements.

Any one think menopause? Should I see Dr or will they laugh at me?

The thing is, even if it is menopause then there is no treatment other than HRT and that's a case of trying it, and if it works that's your answer.
It depends on how badly it is bothering you.
I think in your shoes I'd lay off the anti histamines for a week if possible just to see if they are responsible, then take it from there.

skolastica · 28/10/2014 07:36

Try topping up your magnesium levels. Epsom salts bath at night maybe?

BiWitched · 28/10/2014 07:38

I'd stop taking the antihistamines for a while and see what happens.
