Hi

I've just got back from the Dr's where he told me I am in the menopause from some blood test results. I had no idea it was happening yet as I thought it didn't hit til your fifties (I'm 49).

7 years ago I had an endometrial ablation so haven't had any periods since then.

I would like to read up on some info about it but there's like a million pages to choose from on google! Can anyone recommend any pages please?

The Dr says it lasts about 5 years. has this been your experience? How do you know when it's over?

Thanks :)

Hi Misty!

I am a practice nurse and see a lot of ladies in the same situation. I'm more than happy to try and help answer your questions.

There is a good website run by a team of specialists - www.menopausematters.co.uk.

I am taking DD to the doctors but will be back later with more info.

Menopause can occur at almost any age from as young as girls in their 20's through to late 50's although the averaga age of menopause is 51-52. Many women enter the peri-menopausal years in their 40's and the length of time this lasts is very variable. In addition although some women's symptoms stop after a few years, for others they continue into their 70's and beyond. There is no knowing what will happen with you!

In your position you won't know when it's over. Do you have any symptoms? If so then HRT would be an option. If you aren't having any symptoms then relax!

The menopause matters website redastra mentioned is excellent.

Need some advice. I'm 48 and have not had a period for over 2 years. Due to the extreme flushes and not sleeping and numerous others symptoms decided to try HRT. I'm on Elleste Duet Condi 2mg. . I'm near the end of the packet and now how a bleed and all the symptoms of a period. Surely this is not normal.. can any one advise xx

Might be better to start a new thread so your particular question gets seen as it's specific to the HRT you are on.

Have you been put on a combined HRT- ie no bleed? That's normal for women in their 50s but not usually given to younger women, though you did have an early meno at 46 and combined can be given to women who have had no periods for 2 years. However, as you are still quite young there is the slight chance it's your own hormones breaking through and you are having a period- but check the packet and make sure it is combined you are on. If you were on sequential then it would be expected to have a bleed near to or a few days after the end of the month.
