Can extreme stress kick start menopause?

This might be an utterly ridiculous question. In have just had blood test and confirmed that I am 'out the other side' according to doctor. Am 47 and haven't had a period for at least 18 months. All my symptoms seemed to start during a long period of extreme stress and grief and I wondered if there is a connection. Or am I being ridiculous?

Yes it can - this happened to a friend of mine BUT her periods resumed and carried on till she was 52 ish once she was over the stress.
Also, blood tests are not reliable often.
I had one and was told I was post meno and yet I had periods for another 2 years.

It wouldn't surprise me.

I've (40) had symptoms for over 2yrs and I've been swamped by stress for over 5yrs now. My poor hormones have probably packed up and left Hmm.

Yes. My last day of periods was the day my husband died, no peri menopausal symptoms before , just a complete stop. Missed out on hot flushes too.
