What are your experiences of hot flushes? And are these hot flushes?

I'm going through an early menopause. Started around my 40th birthday and I'm 42 now. I had missed four periods last year and had my bloods done and was referred to the hospital. They said it is the early menopause and I've only had three periods this year.

I have been having mood swings, but not too bad. This last month though I get several times in a day and night when I just suddenly feel really hot all over. I don't go red or sweat. It only lasts a few minutes then I go back to normal. It's starting to wake me up quite often at night.

Are these hot flushes? As from what I've heard people say is they sweat a lot with them and I don't get that.

Sounds like the type of flushes I get, no warning just suddenly feeling very very hot, I did go a bit red when I had them in the summer.
Sometimes they only lasted 30 seconds or so.

Yes that's just what they are like 50 they come on just out of the blue. I can actually be feeling cold just one second before, and yes they are often short lived.

Yes,that's what mine are like. No period since December here

Yes that's them.

I do hope you are going to use HRT- you MUST because otherwise your bones will be without the right level of oestrogen for 10 years because average age of meno is 52

Was this not discussed when you went to the hospital?.

Kasterborous · 22/08/2014 13:34

Pinfrocks at the hospital they told me I wouldn't need HRT unless I was having less than three periods a year.

That's rubbish, with respect.
You need a referral to a gynae who knows about prem menopause.

Have you heard of the Daisy Network? Look at the website for info.

Yes, def sounds like hot flushes. You don't need to sweat!! I was advised to take soya milk. I have a glass every morning and it's worked miracles! Barely any flushes since (& I was getting loads).

Thanks Pinfrocks I will have a look at that. It was an endocrinologist I saw at the hospital not a gynaecologist. If I haven't had another period by the end of September I will go back to my GP, the hot flushes are getting a lot more frequent.
