(Early) menopause and depo - anyone any experience?

I'm currently on depo injections so don't have any periods. Based on family history, I would think I'm quite likely to go through the menopause soon. It would be quite early (I'm 40) but very normal in the women in my family.
I'm wondering if I should stop the depo so that I'd know if/when it happens - how important is it to know if you are menopausal if it happens early? Do you need Hrt?
I should say that before I started on the injections a year or so back, my periods were getting a bit irregular (having always been very regular) and I did wonder at the time if the menopause might be round the corner.

hi , Lizzie I hope you are still there ! I have been on Depo for the last 17 years and it has been great for me but definitly suffering symptoms for a long time , no periods, PMT etc. I went to speak to a nurse last week , she recommended a bone density scan. ( this is the risk of depo ) thyrod check and hormone levels. then I can either go for herbal options ,( she recommended starflower oil capsules to start) and then maybe a change onto pill , coil, or implant + HRT if necessary ,, or stay as I am with HRT . so very many possibilities , I am reassured .

Hi Salopia, thanks for your reply. How do you know when you are menopausal though if you already don't have periods? I'm still a bit baffled by the whole thing.
