Mood swings and menopause?

Not sure f I am menopausal (I'm 49 in two months) but I am so so easily aggravated and my patience is at an all time low which is not good as I have a 7 year old and 16 year old. I have lost my rag and blown my top at my brother and sister recently which I have NEVER done before. When I lost it with my brother I was actually screaming at him that I hated him and never wanted to see him again across a bar in a pub. I had not had one drink so it was not down to that. Has anyone had any experience of this as part of menopause or peri menopause?

Did you talk to your brother since and talk things through?

I think it's really important whether this is being caused by stress or hormones or something else to keep your family and friends in the loop and let them know you need shoulders to lean on.

I have had some awful moments (52) but talking helps. My DCs and my OH have responded very kindly to 'I feel terrible today, sorry'.

lineRunner yes we talked it over and I apologized for my extreme reaction. He had behaved badly so he deserved pulling up on it but he certainly did not warrant my screaming Shock we are fine now

Yes I have been experiencing terrible bad moods which is not at all like me. I am normally known for my tolerance and understanding but that seems to have disappeared. I am 50 in a couple of months and am menopausal and can go months without a period. Last year i suffered badly with hot flashes which seems to have settled. The bad moods are hideous and making me really miserable. I have been looking online to see if there is anything herbal to take but not found anything yet.

horrible isn't it! I still have quite regular periods but some cycles are shorter than others. Largely regular though - I am looking forward to missing the odd period though!

I would recommend evening primrose. At one point I was losing my temper so much I thought I was going mad.
