Is this is it? Very late period (not preg)

Am I starting the menopause? I am 42 years old and generally have regular (give or take a few days) very light periods. My period is over a week late. I know I'm not pregnant (DH been away on business for a month).

Aside from being a bit more rage-y with PMT than before I don't have any other signs: no flushes, sleeping well etc.

I am trying to blame lots of other things going on in my life: work/building house etc but I've def been more stressed (and thinner0 and had periods

I started like that at a similar age, I am now 51 and still getting periods although they are far more infrequent.
You are probably entering the peri menopause stage and that can last several years.

A week late - once- is jumping to conclusions a bit too fast!
There can be other reasons too.
Just keep an eye on it all.
You need to keep a diary for 6 months and see the pattern. Peri can last for 10 years but if your periods stop before age 45-47 then you are advised to use HRT up to age 52 at least to prevent problems with your bones- osteoporosis in your 50s and 60s- and heart disease.

Mine started with the odd late period and some that were closer together, this had been the pattern for the last few years.
Since September though I have only had 3 periods.

I haven't had many other symptoms apart from some palpitations at night ( doctor said he thought it was linked to hormonal changes) and do seem to have drier skin and brittle hair, mind haven't been to the hairdresser for ages!

Could be or might just be a blip!

I posted almost this exact thread. Like you I'm 42. My missing period eventually arrived 18 days late.

If you don't already I think it is worth keeping a log of periods. I use a tracker on my phone.

In my case I had had a rotten virus and dropped down to an underweight BMI so I am optimistically hoping it was that as I have no other symptoms, but I guess only time will now tell.

The not being sure if/when it would turn up was horrendous. It eventually did when I was wearing pale grey jeans and going out straight from work so had the, thankfully not realised, potential for distaster.

I'm 45. Periods started going a bit wonky 5 years ago. Before this always 26 day cycle. Last year been mad. Some close together, e.g. Day 16. Currently on Day 120 with no period!! Suffered 2 months ago with horrible night sweats (they came as quite a shock and were awful), but now fine - only lasted 2 weeks. Though I seem to be starving all the time... apparently as I'm under 50, you have to wait 2 years with no periods before considered gone through the menopause.

mine started changing at 48. I had been regular and then for a year they went wrong - cycles of 10, 21, 45, 6 days and never knowing when one was coming how heavy or how long it would last. then suddenly at 49 they stopped completely. nothing for over a year then 10 months ago had one that lasted 2 days and nothing since. my symptoms started pretty much when my cycle was disrupted. not all the symptoms all at once but the odd hot flush, waking at night, restless at night, not wanting to go to bed until stupidly late, very tetchy. there is usually quite a long lead in time to the menopause so wise to keep a diary.
