Hello

I am new to this board and wondered if anyone could help?? I am 46, just about to turn 47. I have had menopausal symptoms on and off for the last 24 months. I have about one bleed every 8 months. With exercise and diet I have managed to keep hot flushes at bay and just about manage my weight. However, its all getting much worse and I am really fed up (insomnia, horrible hot flushes/sweats, very stressey, itchy skin, no libido and feeling knackered). Sad Sad

A couple of friends have recommended that I see Professor Studd privately. I'd really like to go privately as I have a history of thyroid problems and have a benign left-bundle-branch-block in my heart. I'm worried about paying for HRT on private prescriptions as I don't think we could afford it. Has anyone asked their GP for an NHS prescription after visiting a private consultant?

Thanks in advance. xx

Yes, I saw a consultant gynae privately. And my GP was quite happy to continue prescribing HRT for me afterwards.

Just saw this thread and wanted to add to it. I was due to see a consultant on the NHS but the appointment was cancelled. In desperation, I went privately to see her this week in Harley St. Her name is Prof Gordana Prelevic. She'e one of the top Endocrinologists in the country. Apparently the HRT I had been put on by my local well woman clinic was totally wrong. She was excellent and has put me back on a different one which I pray will kick in soon. Apparently it can be used with high blood pressure, so I was off HRT for a year for no reason.
She was cross that my NHS appointment had been cancelled and assured me she would see me via the NHS going forward and although my first prescription was private, it was still only £8.05 at boots and going forward it can be prescribed by my GP.
I think it is well worth getting the opinion of an experienced consultant. Good luck.
