When you take this for HRT how do you take it?

When I had IVF I had to shove it up my fanny which I hated, just wondered if it's the same for HRT?

He he that's putting it bluntly lol! With certain types of HRT you take progesterone for the 2nd half of the cycle in pill form.

Yes you swallow it. You have one pack of HRT pills. The first half is estrogen and the 2nd half is progesterone. It mimics your natural cycle before you became menopausal. How old are you Nancy ? Which HRT are you on ?

I'm 47. Currently not on any HRT but have GP appointment tomorrow. Still have periods but hot flushes and night sweats/insomnia becoming unbearable.

As you are still having periods i imagine you will be prescribed a similar HRT to me. Estrogen for 2 weeks and then progesterone for 2 weeks after which you get a period type bleed. I was prescribed HRT just last week. I'm only 38!! Been getting the dreaded night sweats and insomnia too as well as lots of other horrible meno symptoms. Hope you get on ok at doctor's.

My Dr has given me progesterone only!!!! She doesn't seem to know what she is doing. I have almost all the symptoms on the list!
Really hoping I get HRT soon and that I will start to feel better.

I haven't started it yet. The doctor told me to start it on the first day of my next period. I hope it bloody well works, my symptoms are becoming unbearable! Don't have hot flushes during the day but night sweats are bad especially a few days before a period. A couple of months ago i woke up drenched in sweat and the bedsheets were sodden, i was so scared! Do you get heart palpitations with your flushes/night sweats ?

Hi Fidelma, your'e on the Premature meno board aren't you. That's odd your doctor has given you just progesterone but i really don't know much about HRT what with being a newbie myself x

Littlemiss - yes I also get the racing heart thing too, horrible isn't it?

At night I go from feeling like I'm in a sauna to feeling like I'm in a freezer.

Littlemissnutmeg I am all over these boards trying to understand all this!
I am going to ask for a referral to a specialist before I start taking anything. It's just so tough.

Fidelma, I guess I'm 'lucky' that it's only at night!

Maybe i am having flushes during the day then because i often feel really cold with goosebumps and then 10 mins later i feel hot. I don't sweat though like i do at night. And the racing heart only seems to happen at night.
