Palpitations (Racing or Fluttering?)

Sorry if I sound a bid stupid but when people prescribe palpitations are they describing a fluttering heart or a racing heart?

I have started getting the got flushes while in bed and they always end with a racing pounding heart.

Just wondered how many of us get the racing heart and how many gt the fluttering heart?

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Shazzie,
I have been having palpitations (where it feels like your heart skips a beat and is then followed by a more pronounced beat) and also the fluttering feeling you describe. It has been happening regularly since last June. I am 56 and going through the menopause. I feel hot pretty much permanently and don't seem to have hot flushes.
It can happen for 3 or 4 days on a row and then disappear for a while.
I mentioned it to my GP as it is quite distressing and uncomfortable and can make you feel panicky. I am having an ECG done at my GP's surgery tomorrow to check things out.
I have read that it is not uncommon during the menopause but I don't think many people are aware of that.
I have read on other forums that women often get it checked out but there doesn't always seem to be an explanation for it.
If it is really bothering you perhaps you should discuss it with your GP and they can check your blood pressure etc.
Will let you know how I get on and if there is a connection with the menopause.
Hope you get things sorted out and feel more comfortable soon.
Best wishes

Hiya

Thank you so much for replying.

I had a chat with my GP and she has put me on HRT Patches (Femseven Conti). She checked my bp and she said it was good so that's a relief. Mind you if it had been taken during the racing heart episode I dread to think what it would have been!!

That patches are making me feel so much better and I haven't had the racing heart since I have been on them. Fingers crossed that will last.

I am 53 and my periods have stopped so she is sure it is a menopausal symptom.

I hope you get on ok tomorrow.

Take care and thank you so muih again for replying. Really helps.

Shazzie xx
