I'm 38 and was told a year ago that i was going through a premature menopause and was advised to start HRT. I left it for a few months as i was trying for a baby but then back in the summer i did try HRT for a couple of months. I found it helped with my vaginal dryness, it cleared up within a couple of days. But i was still having panic attacks at night and heart palpitations. One night i woke up so terrified as i thought i was having a heart attack and phoned an ambulance! My heart was jumping out of my chest, it certainly felt that way! I put that down to a side effect of the HRT and it really scared me so i stopped taking it. I am still having periods every 4 or 5 weeks and i do ovulate sometimes so i wonder if i really need the HRT just yet. This past 3 or 4 weeks however i have been getting the most awful night sweats that soak the sheets. It's like a panic attack but i sweat loads. It was at it's worse in the few days before my last period. The past week or so the sweats haven't been as bad but i still wake most nights with a racing heart and a sweaty puddle on my chest. In the past i have taken Prozac (Fluoxetine) for anxiety and panic, although that was back in my 20s and early 30s so totally unrelated to menopause then. It got rid of the panic attacks within a few weeks. Would it be worth trying this now do you think ? Although as i am having the vaginal dryness and a few other menopausal symptoms would it be better to just give the HRT another go and stick with it a bit longer this time ?
