I'm 38 and possibly going through a premature menopause. Lots of meno symptoms, irregular periods, a change in blood flow and duration, mood swings. Not got an official diagnosis of meno yet but hormone bloods have been abnormal in the past. Doctor thinks I may have polycystic ovaries, as apparently the symptoms are very similar to menopause. It's either one or the other. Anyway, this week the most awful night sweats have started. Iv'e been waking up 3 or 4 times a night drenched in sweat and the bed sheets damp. Heart palpitations also that come with the sweats. I'm really scared, it's frightening keep waking up in a panic and I'm so tired. Went to my doctor and he won't give me HRT until polycystic ovaries has been ruled out. Surely though, PCOS wouldn't cause such extreme night sweats ?? Also very stressed and anxious but also been told not to take antidepressants yet although I know from past experience these would calm me a little. What can I do ?

I don't think PCOS would give you night sweats.
Tincture of sage is supposedly good for flushes and sweats.

Has your dr arranged for a scan in the near future?

I will have a scan at the infertility clinic sometime hopefully in the near future. The consultant there prescribed me Clomid to try to help me ovulate and i was told to start on day 2 of my next period. He then wants me to have a scan on day 10 of that cycle to see how my ovaries are responding to the medication. My cycles are irregular and i'm currently waiting for my period to start. I'm on cycle day 30 and no sign of a period yet, although i do often get these night sweats in the run up to a period so maybe it will come any day now. Iv'e never had night sweats as bad as they have been this week though. I go to bed feeling fine and cool, drop off to sleep easily and then, bang, i'm awake with a racing heartbeat and drenched in sweat and feeling really hot. I do agree with you, i really don't think PCOS would give me night sweats. The clinic have told me to have a blood test on day 2 of my next perod to check my hormone levels before i start the Clomid. I'm really interested to see what the blood results reveal. Judging by how awful ive felt all week i'm expecting my estrogen to be low and my FSH to be at menopausal levels. Trouble is i need to wait for my damn period to be able to have the bloods taken and get an accurate day 2 reading!!! It's very frustrating!! What with Xmas in the way now too i expect this whole thing will now drag on into the New year. I may try the sage you suggested. Also, i do have some progesterone cream to try. My Mother swore by this when she was hav ing menopausal hot flashes and night sweats. Haven't had any daytime hot flashes as yet but i guess i have to expect them soon!

Well i guess my period will come in the next week or so and i'm dreading those awful nights of sweating again in the run up to it. I'm really scared.

Hiya

The night sweats and palpitations are horendous. I have started getting them over the past few weeks and they are so frightening. I wake up feeling really hot then my heart starts pounding and racing really fast. I have been given HRT patches and am waiting to see if they help. I really hope you get help for yours.

Shazzie xx
